At the Vintage Arcade Superstore, the video game heyday of the ’80s lives on

If you grew up in the 1970s or ’80s, you probably spent a fair share of your time hanging out in video arcades: Whether it was working the joystick on Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and QBert, taking the steering wheel through the high-speed chase games Turbo and Spy Hunter, or blasting bad guys in police and [...]

Iconic 80’s Animation ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ on DVD

In the mid 1980s, a strange phenomenon overcame moviegoers and animation enthusiasts in the form of a team of oddly compatible men that formed the most formidable paranormal investigation team the nation had ever seen. Ghostbusters, who risked life and limb to protect the general public from any assortment of trouble-making phantasms, then-served as the [...]

Wild boys – Duran Duran’s musical legacy is more than kitsch

Hip-hop be damned, Duran Duran invented bling. Long before Notorious B.I.G. and P.Diddy née Puff Daddy cruised the waves in their massive motorboat in the 1997 video for “Hypnotize,” the boys in the late Princess Di’s favorite band  sailed on yachts in Armani suits, scored with a harem of supermodels, ventured to exotic locales to [...]

Back to the 80s with Xcelsis

I just found out about a cool new “old” band called Xcelsis.    This is how they describe themselves: ” A  spoof/satire band where the whole premise is an 80s synth-pop band that only wrote songs about the holidays”.  Their music is very impressive, and if you didn’t know better you would swear this came straight [...]

Retro Phone Handset Brings Back the 80s

Over the years, the portable phone took away that simple crutch – the thinner they became, the more likely people smartly [...]

The Return of Grandmaster Flash

It’s been 20 years since ’80s rap icon Grandmaster Flash had an album of new material on store shelves. That album was 1988’s On the Strength, which was itself a bit of a disappointment when compared to earlier LPs.
The thing that sticks in my mind most when Joseph Saddler’s MC name is brought up though, [...]

New Line bringing an 80s based rock musical to the big screen

New Line has won an auction for screen rights to “Rock of Ages,” a stage musical that does with ’80s rock anthems what “Mamma Mia!” did with Abba tunes.
Chris D’Arienzo, who wrote the book for the Off Broadway tuner, will write the screenplay and direct the film.
The storyline takes place at a Sunset Strip [...]

Hollywood Goes ’80s-Remake Crazy!

Romancing the Stone
Fox announced it’s remaking Romancing the Stone, the romantic comedy that made Michael Douglas, Danny Devito, and Kathleen Turner movie stars. No cast or director have been named, but Eagle Eye’s Daniel McDermott is on board to write the screenplay.
Arthur
Warner Bros. is rebooting Arthur, this time with Russell Brand playing the over-served playboy. [...]

Chaka Khan tells CNN’s Lola Ogunnaike about the studio error that made a popular 80s tune what it is today.
